Reckless & Relentless.

So here is the Asking Alexandria review I said I would post earlier (that is, if you read my earlier post). Before that though, I'll talk briefly about my day. It started off well when I recieved my grade back for my Reading as a Writer assignment. I managed to get a nice 63, somehow. This sits nicely with the 64 I got for my History of Journalism essay that I got back yesterday. It proves to myself that putting a little bit of effort into your work does go a long way.

Besides from that though, I haven't done much else today. So, here is the review, for those of you who are actually interested in the same music as I.

Asking Alexandria - Reckless & Relentless

My hype for this album was somewhat large after listening relentlessly (ha, punny) to their debut, Stand Up & Scream. Don't get me wrong, the follow up album is enjoyable, but also somewhat of a disappointment. It starts off with an unnecessary introduction, simply titled 'Welcome'. It doesn't do much in terms of music, and is dull and instantly forgetable. However, the album gets off to a rather nice start with the tracks 'Dear Insanity' and 'Closure'. As the album gets through its playtime, passing other hits such as 'To the Stage' and 'Someone, Somewhere', Reckless & Relentless reaches its end. Of course, it's basic knowledge that albums these days only last around the 40 minute mark, but this album passes through it so quickly you don't even realise it. And that is not a good thing. As track after track converge and it becomes difficult to recognise when the album shifts songs, it settles in that this is another unpolished metalcore offering that doesn't hold enough variety to be brilliant. Sure there are some brilliant moments ('Closure' 'Morte Et Dabo'), but this isn't a brilliant album. It's good, and the songs are well played/performed/recorded/produced (delete where appropriate), but it quickly turns into another seemingly bland effort by a band that I know can offer so much more (for those of you interested, please do check out Stand Up & Scream).

Overall, it's an enjoyable listening experience, that lacks any real drive to be imaginative and creative.

6/10

The good ones: Closure, To the Stage, Morte Et Dabo.
